Happenings

I  just realized that, while I have updated all of you on my writing. I have neglected to update you on anything that has been happening in my life, and a lot of things have been happening. Or has happened if you like.

I moved back home, well sorta. All of my things are still in Saskatchewan at the moment. My cat was too. Luckily she was able to catch a flight down with my cousin, because I almost died without her.
Basically me and my cat.

It was a last minute decision. I went home for Christmas with the full intention of returning, but it wasn't until I got there, that I realized how much I missed them all. I couldn't see myself leaving them, at least not yet. So I just stayed, and we have yet to figure out when or how we are going to go about retrieving my things. I really miss my books, my violin, and my best friend. I feel horrible for leaving her, but she has been really understanding about everything. I'm not sure I could do the same.

It turned out to be the right choice.

This is me finally admitting something to myself, I have been a passive person. I tend to change my mind and opinions to suit other people or to keep them happy. It's not a healthy habit, it has caused me a lot of emotional havoc, and made me seem somewhat bi-polar when it comes to decisions. Especially big ones like moves and jobs.

I'm working on it, like everything else really. I'm happy where I am, surrounded by my family. I have started working on some of my hobbies, which are more like skills that I want to turn into a job. So I thought I would give you guys a glimpse into my plans for 2016, they are rather impossible.

1. Book Blogging

As much as, I love writing on this blog. I never seem to like putting reviews on it,sometimes I read three books back to back and three reviews in a week seem a bit  much. If I had a blog dedicated to that specific thing I could post at my leisure. So I'm hopefully getting that up soon. I also wanted to do book inspired photo shoots and book feasts.

On a similar note I started a second Instagram account, and it's a Bookstagram account.
@inksplatteredpages I have always loved photography and books, so I can't believe it took me so long to put the two and two together. Follow me if you like, for some bookish pictures. ( I just recently discovered Corel Draw and it's marvelous)

2. Photography

One of my passions, my idea of a good time is dressing someone up and throwing them into nature for an impromptu shoot. I have always wanted to do something with my photos, but I'm hesitant to share them because people could steal them or whatever. Anyone know of any good, safe sites to showcase your work? I like showing them on here, but I would like to build my platform a little.

here is one of my favorites
3. Esty Store

This one is still in the starting stages, I have a name and a couple of unfinished products. I'm going to be selling painted wood boxes, quotes, and canvases. All are going to be in a book theme or book inspired. The funny thing, I don't paint so this could be a complete failure on my part. I'm just going to put myself out there and if nobody buys it, then I will maybe suck it up and get a job, maybe. I'm doing a Night Circus box right now.

The only other things are all book related, like how I'm going to try to get published this year, if it kills me. Sorry for neglecting this blog so much lately.

  1. Ooo your etsy store sounds delightful! And I always enjoy your photography. My dad is a photographer and he puts his photos on some stock websites- are you looking into selling them? I don't know a whole lot about it, but I think it's a cool idea! I know what you mean about making your own decisions. I've been trying to do more of that lately, and not just what I know will make someone else happy. I'm glad you got your cat back. :)

    1. Thanks you so much! That is so cool, my mom dabbles with it. I'm not sure I want to sell them, though that would be amazing. I more just want to offer up my services.
It's difficult, breaking away from the idea that I don't have to please other people. Me too :)

  2. I think that's wonderful you've decided to do what's best for you. I know it must be hard, but you're right. We can't spend our entire lives being miserable just to be people-pleasers. We'll just be drained and tired and not fit for anything if we do that. So I think you're brave making this change. ^_^

Oooh, you're going to make a book blog? I LOVE BOOK BLOGS. I cannot wait!!! :D

Oh my goodness gracious me. Dat picture you took. O___O You most definitely need to do something with your photography! YOU ARE SO TALENTED. Just...wow!

Your Etsy shop sounds like it's going to be so fun! I mean, book inspired things! :D :D :D I so hope it works out for you.

    AND GETTING PUBLISHED. YESSSH. Eeeee!

I'm so excited for you, Skye. I so hope you have the most amazing year and everything will go according to plan. <3

    1. It was really hard to come to that decision, and then act on it. I was really drained last year, but this year I'm determined to take control of my life :D

Yes! I can't wait to do it, books are my life.

Thank you so much, it's so easy to second guess myself about that because there are so many talented photographers, and I feel like a beginner.

I hope so, I'm taking my time with the products because I want them to be really nice.

That would make my year, or life!

Thanks Christine, your comments always brighten my day! I hope you have a wonderful year too!

  3. Book photography! I have an instagram account made for writing/bookish related things, but I am so inconsistent with posting. :P Part of it is that I don't have a great camera, so I have to borrow my mom's which I always feel bad about. :P

    1. Do you! I would love to follow you, I'm not sure how often I will be posting either.
It's funny because I started out with my mom's camera too, I ended up using it more than her, so she gave it to me for Christmas. I always felt bad about using it too.

  4. Wow, that's a big life change all over again, moving back home. But like Christine mentioned, it's so good that you've made a decision that's right for you.

Your plans for book blogging and photography and opening an Etsy store are so exciting! That picture is *gorgeous.* You're amazing at that sort of thing, Skye! Your photo shoot posts of your siblings dressed up are a testament to that.

God's plans for you are amazing! I can't wait to see what this year holds for you! <3

  5. Omggg these ideas sound FABULOUS. I have an etsy store and it's really doing quite well, which is great. XD Although I mostly do origami?! Which doesn't really fit with my blog, so I forget to advertise it there a lot. Boo. But I love etsy because people easily can find your stuff. *nods* SO BEST OF LUCK WITH THAT!! And good on you for making a decision for you. Happiness is really really good. <3 (Also your photos are excellent! I hope you do find a way to make some money with them soon. :D)

I really like your photography and all the playing around with dress up wheeee! If I lived closer/knew you personally I would TOTALLY offer to be a model for you. That sounds awesome.

I will totally follow you on instagram! I'm a little inactive now that I'm studying in Denmark but once I return to my bookshelves (<3) in May it'll liven up again.

  7. Good on you for knowing yourself and making the tough decisions! Honestly I don't think anyone is good at making decisions about where to live and what job to get or what to do with their lives. I sure don't know what I'm doing. That's what makes it an adventure (cue The Hobbit soundtrack)! All your new goals for blogging and photography and opening an etsy store sound fantastic. :D

    1. Thanks, it's been a long time getting there. I'm starting to think that too, we're all clueless. I want to go on adventure to slay a dragon, I think it would be thrilling. :D Now it's time to do them, I hope they all turn out.

  10. WOAH YOUR PICTURES. They're so pretty - I'm looking forward to stalking your bookstagram ;) (Unfortunately, alas, I don't have one of my own yet.) I understand what you're sayng about trying to be less passive - that happens to me. Like, I try to be there for everyone, when something happens. But in that process, I realized, that sometimes it's okay to ask for some help of my own, too. Being a people-pleaser is okay, but not the best way to stand up for yourself. So I'm gonna change that.

    On another note, I really hope this comment gets through (Dammit captcha why). I tried commenting on your last post three times, but something kept on happening ;-;

    1. AWE thanks. Stalk away, I stalk a lot of peoples. I can't wait for you to get one, I will stalk you back. It's a hard habit to break, I agree it's not bad to be a people pleaser its just don't be a rug.

It did, I will have to check that out. One other person wasn't able to comment either.

  11. YOU CAN GET PUBLISHED, SKYE! You so can! You're a great writer. I always love and adore your stories, the characters. Everything. Do it! Go for it! (and if you need someone around to rant, or whine to or just to beta read or send panic attacks to, or celebrate ['cause that IS going to happen], just send me an email ;) )

I'm glad you're still doing photography. I always love the photos you post on your blog. I rather think you're good at it. ;)

Also, the etsy shop and the blogging plans sound awesome! Can't wait!
